Tecno Mobile is now Africa’s top Smartphone brand after beating top tier brands Samsung, and Huawei Mobile. The growth of Tecno Mobile in Africa can be attributed to its midrange market status as the best manufacturer providing cheap alternatives to the expensive top tier and flagship smartphones from brands like Samsung, Huawei and Apple.

Over the years, the overall Tecno Mobile smartphones suite never exceeds $300 in all African counties where the brand is active, by this, many customers tend to opt for a cheap, yet high specifications release offered by the brand. More so, the unpredicted effects of the COVID19 Pandemic period in 2020 ignited a low-expenditure behaviour amongst customers makign midrange and entry-level smartphones the best choices to consider.

The brand managed to beat Samsung which has over the years been Africa’s top smartphone brand due to a 6.7% Year on Year (YoY) drop in smartphone shipments in 2020. Damage to smartphone shipments is attributed to the COVID19 pandemic which attracted lockdowns in countries like Uganda, Kenya, SouthAfrica, Nigeria, Rwanda, and many others.

The biggest drop in Smartphone shipments was in the first half of 2020 when COVID19 became a talk of the day. Then, manufacturers entered recovery mode in Q2, then restarted shipments in Q3 and Q4 when the African business atmosphere reflected with blue skies attracting a 1.5% YoY gain as opposed to the Q2 27% YoY drop in shipments.

According to Counterpoint Research’s senior Analysts Yang Wang, the change in market dynamics is greatly attributed to uncertainty caused by the COVID19 Pandemic which attracted a saving behaviour in customers as opposed to expenditure due to lockdown effects and preparations for the future.

“Looking at the entire year, the African smartphone market outperformed other regions but was not immune to disruptions caused by the pandemic. Q2 2020 was especially difficult as demand was hammered when most countries entered lockdowns. Smartphone shipments during the quarter saw a YoY drop of 27%.”
Said Yang Wang

On the other hand, mid-range smartphones sell like hot cake in Africa, and over the years, many customers have deviated away from purchasing top tier smartphones by opting for cheap quality. This has made the Transsion holdings trio of Tecno Mobile, Infinix, and Itel Mobile succeed in shipping smartphones at price tags users want to see, and not top tier quality that would hike prices.

As per the Counterpoint Research Market monitor, smartphones priced between $0-$199 were much popular and registered high shipments as opposed to top tier brands that often cost $300 and above. On average, midrange smartphones where Tecno Mobile ranks as a clear leader contributed to over 80% in smartphone shipments of 2020.

This means a change in user behaviour across the African continent, and top tier brands like Samsung have noted the change by introducing budget-friendly yet quality-centric smartphones to the midrange sphere. By standard, Samsung A Series releases rank as the best mid-range smartphones on the market as compared to Tecno Mobile releases.

By this standard, if Huawei Mobile re-opts to ship more midrange smartphones to the continent, then, the competition landscape will change giving manufacturers like Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo, Realme, Nokia, to re-imagine their prices and quality to best serve the midrange market. For now, Samsung is no longer Africa’s top smartphone brand – a position it has held for years. Instead, Tecno Mobile is now the leading smartphone brand with its sister brands of iTel and Infinix ranking 3rd and 6th respectively.

Owning a Television (TV) set is one of the most essential starter choices for every adult. Best TV Brands in Uganda keep changing partners as new manufacturers consider launching their LED, LCD, and Smart TV offers in the country. But as partners change, the best TV brands in Uganda have not changed by much even with stiff competition making screens cheaper than ever before.

Mostly, brands have considered the trend of selling their products right at the customer’s doorstep by embracing online shopping which guarantees free delivery anywhere in Uganda. But even with that trend, some of the best brands are still not listed online which leaves a margin of buying one of the best TV brands in Uganda by relying on customer reviews and reliability.

Well, before choosing a TV Brand to buy in Uganda, you must consider a few factors if you are to have a smooth experience while using your purchased entertainment screen. Among the factors you can consider include digital functionality (whether it supports free to air channels straight out the box), purchase terms like Warranty, and others like:

Digital TV Does it support Free to air functionality)

Warranty

TV Type: LED or LCD

Availability and cost of repairs (Spare parts)

Supported Screen Resolutions

Power Rating

Access to support

So, before buying any TV brand in Uganda, you must keep in focus supported functions which can include those listed above. If considered, chances are that you will land on a reliable TV Screen you can watch without worrying about uncertainties. Nonetheless, here are some of the best TV Brands in Uganda as rates by market share, popularity, and availability.

Best TV Brands in Uganda (By Market Share & Popularity)

Hisense

Hisense has grown popularity in having the most-searched-for TVs in Uganda currently. This is due to the fact that the Chinese brand disrupted flat-screen prices in recent years with an affordability for all formula. So, with cheap, yet good resolution TVs, the brand has garnered a great market share, and it currently ranks as one of the best TV brands in Uganda you can consider buying.

Samsung

Samsung is a multi-national brand that has sealed its mark across the world. Samsung TVs are ranked as some of the best in resolution, features, and durability in countries where they’re available. In Uganda, Samsung as a TV brand continues to grow popular even with stiff competition from brands like Hisense, Changhong, Skyworth, among others. By price range, you can buy a Samsung TV in Uganda at a somewhat higher price than most flat-screen TVs due to its status as a reliable brand.

LG

Just like Samsung, LG is one of the best TV Brands in Uganda that have not only sealed a sounding local name, but also have a great reputation from customers across the world. Well, LG TVs in Uganda rank in the same league as Samsung with great resolutions, features and durability. By price range, LG TVs as well come at a somewhat higher price tag compared to regular Chinese-brands and can be purchased from LG showrooms, or online via websites like Jumia.

Skyworth

Skyworth is a growing TV brand that has sealed its name in Uganda as a reliable alternative to Samsung TVs. Skyworth TVs come with great resolution, features, and durability as compared to other brands in the same price range. In fact, Skyworth TVs distributed from Samsung showrooms as alternative choices for budget-friendly seekers. By standard, the brand is popular on Jumia as a great TV choice in the same league as Hisense, but with an extra sensation of quality.

Changhong

Changhong is a new TV brand in Uganda that has garnered fast popularity with its affordable 32-inch and 40inch sized TVs that fit in the budget-friendly price range for first-time TV owners. The low price tags attached to Changhong TVs can be attributed to the fact that, they’re assembled in Uganda cutting the overall cost of manufacture than other brands. However, even with assembly in Uganda, Changhong is one of those great brands you can rely on for some good quality and features.

All in All, the best TV brands in Uganda are majorly Hisense, Samsung, LG, Skyworth and Changhong since they are popular among customer circles. However, they are many other brands like Saachi, Sayonna, Solestar, Lamberts, and others that have great display quality, but have not raised many eyebrows as per their features and build quality.

Nonetheless, in case you’re sure of any other great TV Brands in Uganda that deserve to be on the list, then, feel free to share your thoughts in our comment box below.

The galaxy Z Fold 2 Is now official, launched alongside the Galaxy Note 20 series, the Fold 2 comes with a sniff of upgrades as it succeeds the Galaxy Fold. Notably, the codename has changed with a Z representing the Z shaped flip giving it a final call out as the Galaxy Z Fold 2.

Well, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 brings to play great changes headlined by 5Cameras (Front + Rear), Bigger Displays (Both fold screens), improved durability, and a Snapdragon 865+ Soc chipset.

In line with the Galaxy Fold goals of having 2 screens flip into 1 and vice versa, the Galaxy Fold 2 equips a tiny punch hole notch housing the front selfie cameras (10MP f2.2) on both screens. This means, you can capture selfies whether the Fold 2 is unfolded or folded.

Cameras

A Tripple rear camera system, 2 front selfie cameras to the front independent on each fold curate a total of 5 Cameras on the Galaxy Z Fold 2. Although the device is less by 1 camera as compared to its predecessors, the lens setup remains the same with a 12MP primary camera with OIS, a 12MP ultra-wide angle, then a 64MP telephoto sensor with 3X hybrid Zoom capabilities.

For low light shots, a single high power LED flash accompanies the rear camera setup. In contrast, the front selfie cameras use the Smartphone’s inbuilt display to bounce light when capturing selfies in low light.

General Build, Display and Battery

The Galaxy Z Fold 2 equips a Snapdragon 865+ chipset that ranks as the latest chip shipped to the Galaxy Note 20 and Galazy Z Flip 5G. For swift performance, 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 inbuilt storage facilitate the device’s general software performance powered by Android 10.

Also, 5G connectivity is enabled by an onboard Snapdragon X55 modem which sweeps speeds of up to 2GBps. Comparatively, the display internals are supported with a 7.6-inch QXVGA + Flexible AMOLED Screen.

If Unfolded, the device width tags 6.2inches of edge to edge Full HD+ (2260 x 816-pixel) Super AMOLED display. For such a power-centric display, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 battery setup is a dual norm with a 4500mAh capacity sieved with 2,250mAh side by side.

Fast Charging as a must capability on all Samsung flagships, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 supports 25W via a USB type C port. In the same way, the Smartphone supports 11W wireless charging and Wireless power share capable of reverse charging to compatible devices.

Price and Availability

Apparently, Samsung has not revealed the Price tag attached to the Galaxy Fold 2, neither the official availability dates when the device will be ready for pre-order. But instead, the company revealed that more information will be shared in September though we expect this foldable release to cost at least $2000.

Huawei Technologies is currently in talks with Samsung and SK Hynix for stable chip supplies. This is due to rising pressure from the US barring chip makers from conducting business with the Shenzhen based Company.

Previously, Huawei was ordering chips from various makers such as TMSC in the United States. But with an extension of the company’s existence on the US entity list, Chip providers have revoked their partnerships with Huawei in compliance with ever-rising rules.

According to Korea Economic Daily, Huawei is now in talks with Samsung and SK Hynix for the supply of chips in case sanctions continue North. Annually, Huawei is an active client to the South Korean Duo purchasing over $8.1 Million worth NAND and DRAM flash memory chips.

With Samsung and SK Hynix taking a bullish share of 70% for DRAM memory chips globally, Huawei’s choice to strike a partnership with the Companies will make it self reliant from any US coalitions.

Likely, Huawei has also started purchasing chips from fellow Chinese maker, MediaTek, and further sourcing for more makers that are not under any US influence barring them from conducting business with Huawei.

If successful with bridging partnerships to the South Korean based brands, Huawei may fully on custom solutions to still serve its customers amidst a current ban from the US ecosystem.

The Smartphone market is growing competitive and this is not because China is the most active player, but because the less operating systems volume influences manufactures’s production turbines

Since we have kissed 2020 with teasers from major manufacturers ahead of this year’s consumer electronics show (CES), it’s about time we see what these manufacturers have lined up for the year’s 1st quarter month.

After Samsung paving way for its LITE Smartphone releases earlier this month, mid-range players like Xiaomi, Honor, Oppo and TECNO Mobile never miss such flights granting them bullish spikes for releases in the course of the year.

Well, here are some of the best Smartphones you should expect to see on a launch pad this January before the 2020 manufacturers race is actively flagged off

Samsung S10 LITE, Galaxy Note 10 LITE

The Samsung Galaxy S10 LITE and Note 10 LITE

Samsung is the first manufacturer to launch new releases in 2020 after successfully placing its S10 LITE and Galaxy Note 10 LITE on launch pads. The Pair was launched on January 4th and it’s dressed in close to mid-range budget attire but with full high-end functionality

The Samsung Galaxy S10 LITE comes with slightly a lower specifications sheet compared to its the base Galaxy S10, as the Note 10 LITE is also also borrows the same style away from the base Galaxy Note 10,

Even though both the LITE and base releases don’t differ much when it comes to the design and display support, the Retail price of the two versions always creates a support margin between the mid-range and high-end tiers

Both the S10 LITE and Note 10 LITE will be showcased at CES 2020 and rumor on the availability dates will be published during the show’s timeline. But first, here is a Mini-Specifications sheet for the 2 LITE releases

Galaxy S10 LITE

Galaxy Note 10 LITE

Processor: Snapdragon 855

Exynos 8895

Display: Infinity O 6.7 Inch, Super AMOLED Screen

Infinity O 6.7 Inch, Super AMOLED Screen

Rear Camera: 48MP + 12MP + 5MP (triple)

12MP + 12MP + 12MP (triple)

Front Camera: 32MP

32MP

Storage: 8GB RAM + 128GB Internal

8GB RAM + 128 GB

Battery: 4,500mAh

4,500mAh

Fast Charging: 45W

25W

Launched Date: January 4th

Samsung Galaxy A51

Samsung Mobile is on top of its game and it never lets its focus stick on just high-end releases, but also dives in-to the budget-friendly league with great devices. It’s to this fashion that the Galaxy A51 will be launching this sometime this month

As per the rumour mill, the Smartphone will be showcased at this year’s CES with the A71 sharing the same launch date. The A51 will succeed the Galaxy A50 that was launched in 2019 and will feature an Infinity O display rating

Launch Date: Mid-Late January

Xiaomi Mi Note 10

The Xiaomi Note 10
COUTESY IMAGE

Xiaomi is undoubtedly one of the best mid-range manufacturers giving the Transsion brand enough competition in its strong hold locations like Africa and India. Xiaomi will be launching its new Note series release succeeding the Note 9 this Month

After launching a 1080MP Camera Smartphone late last year, we expect Xiaomi to be back on top of its game with approximately the same standard as the Note 10 teaser sheet states

The Xiaomi Mi Note 10 is expected to feature 5 rear Cameras carrying 108+20+5+12+2MP Lenses powered by 2 solid quad-LED flashlights. Yet again, the Battery standard will be a 5260mAh rating giving it more uptime that its predecessors

Launch Date: January 24

Oppo F15

Oppo Smartphones are not very popular releases, but on the competitive Android landscape you can’t fail to mention its present models. This month, the Oppo F15 will go live in major markets like India and will pack an under-display fingerprint sensor just like TECNO’s Phantom 9 release

On the other hand, the F15 will pack a MediaTek Helio P70 processor riding on a 6.4Inch AMOLED display standard with 8GB + 128GB as the storage rating for this particular release.

Launch Date: January 16th

Samsung Galaxy A71

Just like the Samsung Galaxy A51, the A71 is another International Mid-range release that will be launched this January. Though Samsung mobile already launched the device in Vietnam, the device will be made available on the International market after its launch

Unlike the Galaxy A51, the A71 features a Snapdragon 731 processor chipset which differentiates it from its mid-range companion. However, it comes with a slightly stronger battery rating of 4500mAh as 5 rear cameras finish its rear design.

Launch Date: Mid/Late January

Features you need to know

Unlike all other flagships we’ve evidenced from Manufacturers, Samsung’s new twist comes with 6 cameras on one phone. Amidst that, one galaxy fold holds 2 batteries to its favorable size. However much, manufacturers have always battled up to the grid for major flagships, the fold is a killer in its own league.

With only days to the Mobile world congress event(25th Feb), these are the features you really need to know on the Galaxy fold despite all the hype surrounding the Korean foldable smartphone.

Samsung’s Galaxy Fold is a 5G powered smartphone

It’s a Dual battery smartphone

The Galaxy fold holds over 6 Cameras to take pictures on the phone

It has a dual user interface and unique operating system to cope with two displays

The Galaxy fold folds two halves meaning its twice bigger than the usual smartphones

It’s priced at $1,980 making it a luxury companion to have

Given the fact that Samsung launched the Galaxy S10 and S10 plus on the same day as its foldable smartphone. The Ball is in your hands to choose whether to party with the luxury companion or go down low to at least $1000 for a Galaxy S10.

Samsung is releasing a foldable smartphone, everyone is excited! Are you? Diving into the paradoxical features expected on such a blog buster. Samsung mobile will be unveiling its first ever foldable smartphone sometime in November during the Galaxy S10 launch. Among the features everyone is excited to see, the foldable feature is just a drop in the ocean.

For the past few years, we all expected the foldable smartphone to come out last in 2018. But, the drill could be facing the last quarter of 2019, though a reflection of the prototype being designed by Samsung will be unveiled during the S10 launch. However, what makes this foldable smartphone so cool, let’s dive into the anticipated features we expect it to have during its launch with the galaxy s10.

A new Galaxy S10 will pave way for the foldable Galaxy X this November

A new Android version, flipping/foldable screen, and a high res display are some of those key features Bloomberg inked in their interview with Samsung. With an intuitive design already developed, Samsung is now wondering whether to give the world’s first ever foldable smartphone a vertical or landscape orientation, a question which needs answers and you could contribute to that.

Launch and availability dates of the Samsung foldable smartphone

The foldable smartphone, commonly referred to as the Galaxy X, will be unveiled alongside the Galaxy S10 in one of November’s first weeks. But then, it won’t be available for purchase until the second quarter of 2019. Amounting on that, what could be your expectations of Samsung’s foldable phone? Share with us your thoughts in the comments section below.

Face scanning and Face ID are two apple profound features that are reportedly moving to Samsung. Now that Apple shipped in the Face ID feature which was launched last year. Samsung’s interest in developing new phones with slightly the same feature is based on the anticipated Note 9 release that has a couple of features including a Bluetooth stylus before the next 2019 releases.

About Samsung’s Face scanning feature

Recently Samsung solved all issues it had with Apple over duplicating a few iPhone feature. However, future Samsung phones are now set to feature the face scanning feature which was first rolled out on the Apple iPhone X and then to Tecno’s Camon X.

The Face-ID feature that is set to be manufactured along with future Samsung releases will bring out another beauty aspect in the Galaxy series smartphones as many users are eagerly waiting for the official unveiling of Samsung’s Galaxy Note 9 phablet later this year.
