Uganda Communications Commission together with other state holders including Kcca,uganda national roads authority(UNRA) have officially opened the hack for smart transport hackathon due to take place at Kampala Serena Hotel Turaco Hall for a period of 48hours to choose the best hackers with innovative solutions towards the transport sector in Uganda and the world at large.

Officially Opened by Engineer Godfrey Mutabazi the hack for smart transport hackathon will see alot of innovations towards transport in Uganda,with Safeboda and Uber being one of the recent innovations to the transport sector in Uganda More hackers where urged to follow the trend and create more innovations to help transform the transport sector amidst the heavy need for transport solutions in Uganda due to the always increasing population and traffic congestion within the city.
During the launch Kcca noted out the challenges faced in the transport sector withing Kampala where Many roads tend to have potholes but in the bid to rectify these manholes people tend to steal the covers,together with unrespectful drivers who tend to bypass traffic light signals thus inmost cases increasing traffic jam together with the rampant accidents.According to UNRA it has started off road projects that will reduce the number of cars passing through the city center that is the Entebbe express highway among other out of the city roads in-order to reduce on the congestion within the city.

The Hack for smart transport hackathon as organised by UCC is aimed at seeing innovations for the transport sector that will solve problems faced withing the city and country at large.According to Kcca they setup Cctv cameras around the city junctions but couldn’t route data in real time to city hall thus it has called upon innovations that can help them capture real-time cctv images together with car number plates that may have violated traffic rules and send the data straight to city hall right as an incident happens in-order to ease up the traffic officer rules since police officers cannot be enough to be at all junctions around the city.

48hours is the amount of time hackers have to accomplish and submit in their smart solutions for review by judges in-order to pick the final two winning teams that will walk away with $1000 each and also get their ideas submitted to the relevant authorities.If you are a hacker out their this is your time.
