MTN Uganda has today re-unveiled its Mobile money charges for the in-COVID19 Period in conjunction with Airtel Uganda. The two mobile operators confirmed their new charges ending a 2months period of free money transfer from customer to customer.
At the Genesis of Uganda’s lockdown period, the two telcos introduced Zero charges for customers sending money to other customers on the same network for a grace period of 30 days. As the Lockdown graph shot high, the telcos extended the offer to May 25th 2020.
Now, from May 26th 2020, customers will now pay 50% of the normal sending charges for the next 30 days. This is due to the undirected COVID19 Lockdown trend that is expected to be lifted soon.
As per the statement shared by the two telcos, both Mobile money sending fees and Mobile money to wallet bank transactions will carry the 50% discount, as Withdraws and utility payments maintain their standard tier charges.
Effective 26th May 2020, all MTN mobile money and Airtel money Person to Person ( P2P) transactions on the same network and Mobile Wallet to bank transactions will be gradually re-introduced at a 50% discount to standard tariffs for a period of 30 days.
