The Class of 2020 from 13 countries start their first day in Class

After Streaming 2 excellent compilations from the talent Factory class of 2018, MultiChoice Talef factory academies are now buzzing with excitiment as the class of 2020 sits in for their first day in class.

The 60 students from 13 countries were chosen after a month-long process that shortlisted candidates from thousands of entries. This year’s applicants were put through a rigorous interview and adjudication process by a group of leading film and television industry experts and the regional Academy Directors and represent the very best in young talent from across the region.

The 60 new students start the academic year with an orientation programme in partnership with Kenyatta University in Kenya, Pan-Atlantic University in Nigeria, the University of Zambia and the Henley Business School.

These academic partners have been onboard since the academies first opened their doors in October 2018 as part of MultiChoice Africa’s ground-breaking corporate shared value (CSV) initiative, the MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF) aimed at igniting Africa’s creative industries through TV and filmmaking.

The second intake of students from Angola, Botswana, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe will be provided with training and hands-on experience in the film industry, with a focus on storytelling, production, audio and directing among other key areas.

The curriculum offers students the opportunity to learn directly from leading African and international industry experts, work on live sets of local TV productions and create original content aired on local M-Net channels across the MultiChoice platforms – DStv, GOtv and Showmax.

“It is a new year with new students.
Different backgrounds and different expectations. For all of us to grow in our
careers, we have had mentors in our journeys, we have also learnt a lot from
each other and from life experiences. I hope that MTF provides all these to our
new students,” says Njoki Muhoho, East Africa Academy Director.

The
60 aspiring filmmakers carry a lot of hope for the African continent in our
quest to tell our stories that reflect who we are and how far we’ve come as storytellers.
Femi Odugbemi, MTF West Africa Academy Director attests to this “We are very excited to welcome the Class of
2020 and to begin a new journey of discovery. We learn filmmaking by making
films and that process of hands-on exposure and learning from the best industry
leaders remains our path to infusing the passion of our students with creative
power.”

The MTF has over the past 12 months partnered with government, local and international film industry associations and partners to hone and sharpen the skills of emerging filmmakers and industry professionals and Berry Lwando, Southern Africa Academy Director feels that the past year has equipped the Academy Directors with great insights to produce the next generation of authentic storytellers.

“The first year was a great learning curve and I’m excited for the Class of 2020 as they embark on their new journey. Their passion for filmmaking makes us wake up in the morning wanting to do more.” Here’s to the next class of authentic African storytellers!

From the Talent Factory class of 2018, MultiChoice has premiered two excellent pieces acted and produced by its students with perfection in the scenery and real-life story draw overs.

With improved quality and acting levels, these are MultiChoice’s first Premieres ever since it launched the Talent Factory program further pimped with a recent reveal of its 2019 MTF Class entrants.

Ensulo and Promises were the 2 movies premiered at the MultiChoice headquarters in Kololo with the Movie directors sharing their views on the overall shooting progress and risks undertaken to render the movies thereafter.

During the Premier we gladly took a front-row seat with an initial invite from MultiChoice. We specifically loved the Promises movie that is not just a Kenyan production but also captioned with English subtitles alongside a Kiswahili audio flow.

Promises as the name sounds is based on a not only original storyline, but also an actual day to day tale of Ghetto youth. It features a father who pulls off everything his hands can guarantee him to ensure a brighter future for his kids in a tough world.

On the other hand, Ensulo was also an amazing Ugandan culture crafted piece that featured a Princess whose aim was to reshape her Kingdom for the best, in a time when her Farther still has a scent of ancient culture to his fingertips.

How you can watch the 2 Movies and More local Movies

With MultiChoice’s duo of super quality movies now available to watch on the Pearl Magic__A Local content GOTV/DSTV Channel. You can easily catch all episodes and even more movies from the Talent Factory class of 2018 by simply grabbing yourself a DSTV or GOTV decoder.

Hence, Once you grab yourself a GOTV decoder or upgrade your existing package, You will have access to the Pearl Magic channel that for now features all local content and specifically from MutliChoice’s Talent Factory student work.

Talent Factory is the newest African Cinema push that will see film creators, producers plus actors learn and connect with superiors in the industry through social networking. Think of Talent factory as a social media platform strictly designed for movie production with a strong feeling to the African Cinema industry.

The interactive online portal aims at profiling and connecting Africa’s industry creatives plus opportunities together in one place. The Talent factory portal will allow filmmakers across the continent to network, find talent and showcase their work with a professional touch to production.

Talent Factory in Uganda is the third touchpoint of the multichoice initiative following the launch of 3 regional academies in the West, East, and South. A 12-month film training programme was unveiled in October last year and master classes launched in January this year to upskill registered industry professionals on one web-based platform.

How you can register on the platform

Unlike any other content sharing platform like Facebook where you meet every kind of person on the web. The Multichoice talent factory portal is a place restricted to only filmmakers in Africa. The platform can be accessed by any creator on the continent and everyone can share their previous content or movies on the portal for visibility from fellow creators.

To register on the platform, simply visit www.multichoicetalentfactory.com to register with your email address and phone number for a fresh new profile. The portal doesn’t have any subscription plans and it’s totally free to access and showcase your creativity through connecting and networking with other industry professionals.

As 2019 comes to a midsection path, Multichoice’s talent Factory portal will spice up the way film creators connect and discover new skills to create African movies. Regardless of the form of support multichoice is giving to the IT industry, it now joins the likes of MTN that have groomed software developers to create new solutions for Africa. Henceforth, all this shows a brighter future for Africa where IT is becoming a relevant step over for the future
