MTN Uganda has partnered with Tooro Kingdom to develop the region’s social-cultural and technological programs for the next 2 years. In a bid to mark the Omukama of Tooro’s 25th Coronation Anniversary, the telco spread its CSR commitment with a UGX 700 Million Pledge.
His Majesty Oyo Kabamba Iguru, the Omukama of Tooro will oversee the Yello telco’s commitment that focuses on the Kingdom’s social, cultural, economic and technological programs to benefit the region.
Among the key non-technological projects to be funded by MTN’s UGX 700Million commitment include: Masaza Football tournaments and the Inter-counties bicycle competitions.
Technologically, the telco will improve network coverage in the region to facilitate fast Smartphone and general technology adoption within the Kingdom.
With 4G LTE as the currently best-supported band in the Tooro Region, the band will function as the telco’s benchmark gateway to vast coverage in rural areas with poor or 2G connectivity.
Representing the Chief Executive Officer, MTN Uganda’s General Manager, Sales and Distribution, Mr. Joseph Bogera the symbolic signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the telco and Tooro Kingdom.
According to Bogera, the telco is working with cultural institutions because they are strong community establishments that foster shared beliefs and unity of purpose as he said:
“As MTN, we believe that we are good together because MTN only succeeds if the communities in which we operate succeed. We are focused on actively demonstrating what can be achieved if we work together to enable a shared value system,”

In return, Rt. Hon Bernard Tungakwo the Prime Minister of Tooro Kingdom thanked MTN Uganda for the fresh commitment of UGX 700 Million and its continues support to the Kingdom as he said:
“I am happy to note that MTN has over the years shown its care for the people of Tooro. Our association stretches years back, and this partnership is further testament to the bond that exists between the people of Tooro and MTN. We are indeed grateful for all the support you have extended to the kingdom and pledge to continue supporting MTN in whatever way we can,” Tungakwo said.
As per the telco’s CSR meter, it has supported serval Innovations, renovations, and equipping of several institutions within Tooro Kingdom. Popularly, the Yello camp re-equipped maternity wards and health centers include Kijuura HC and Kabarole Hospital as part of its 20-year anniversary celebrations.
Hence, with a new commitment to the Western Kingdom of Tooro, the telco aims at spreading its rewarding arm to several regions not only through campaigns like Momo Nyabo, but also through affordable data and voice offers to widen the gap with its competitions like Airtel and Africell.
