Ride Hailing

Uber Lite is a new light version of the main Uber app that will now lets riders choose between a fewer resources companion or the main app. After a successful launch in Kenya last month, Uber Lite has crossed over to Uganda today and the new simplified version of the app will save riders storage space and mobile data.

SafeBoda is a boda hailing service that has grown popular from its glory days in 2014 to date with its orange branded drivers shining bright in Kampala as the best motorbike hailing service. Uber boda and Dial Jack are some of the key competitors giving the firm some great head to head competition as Taxify boda is now struggling step by step down the ladder to a point that it may exit Uganda.

The ride hailing industry in Uganda majorly dominated by 3 companies on both the Boda hailing side and taxi version. Talk about Taxify and listen to the company that shook things up with barely 2 years on the local scene. In October 2017, Taxify stretched out to the taxi-hailing sector before opting a shake-up to the boda hailing industry in January 2018 giving some great competition to SafeBoda in its own league.

Uber has internationally become a household name in many countries with its ride hailing services topping the charts everywhere. In EastAfrica, you can't fail to mention Uber if you wish to travel by a modern taxi hailing service. However, the story is not the same in the Boda hailing sector which is so far dominated by Safeboda that recently crossed over to Nairobi. It's by this quest that Uber now takes on Taxify boda and Safeboda in competing for the top boda hailing spot

The issue of travelling on a budget in Kampala was a debate never addressed until Taxify boda and Uber boda teased a drop of tight competition to Safeboda provoking an ultimate price slash riders have enjoyed with a 50% off tagline. Even when, Safeboda had relatively high rates on short distances and comfortably low on long stretched trips, it's availability zone has always been limited to Kampala. But after the camp's very first driver closed off his last 50 trips, the effect has chattered new availability zones beyond Kampala
