Last year, the Tecno Camon 15 and Camon 16 graced 2020 as a year to leap a new USB-C legion, super detail camera quality, more battery performance as key headliners for future Camon releases. Now with the Camon 17, a manifestation of old is gold with a touch of the 2021 features grade is how we can describe the device having received a review unit 2 weeks ago.

Well, by build quality, the TECNO Camon 17 is a shiny, low bezels device with a phablet-like design teasing attention to the 6.9″ screen sporting an HD 720*1600 resolution and a punch-hole display notch. Internally, 128 GB of Internal Storage and 4GB/6GB RAM make the device fast in either gaming or normal Apps mode giving the device an A performance grade.

But with a clearest selfie camera tagline fronted for the TECNO Camon 17, we find the device partially fit for the description. Just like previous releases, the device’s camera ships the same AI features, same picture detail and shooting modes. So, the capture quality is good, but is still low as compared to high-end releases with mid-range variants in the same class as the Camon 17.

As listed on the TECNO Camon 17 Speciifcssations sheet, the device brings to play improved internals, a gaming processor Android 11 as the base operating system, and a triple rear camera setup alongside a lone 16MP selfie camera lens.

In Uganda, the TECNO Camon 17 costs UGX 600,000 in retail shops and online on eCommerce websites like Jumia. But since the Camon 17 ships in 3 variants, a Pro version, a Camon 17 p, and the base Camon 17, you may find the device priced differently depending on the onboard specifications with RAM as a price decider.

But with key focus on mobile photography as the icing on a big cake, Tecno Mobile’s Timmy Shen believes customers will enjoy owning a Camon 17 Smartphone in a year like 2021.

Timmy added that the CAMON 17 series comes in three different versions, the CAMON 17, CAMON 17 P & the CAMON 17 PRO to give customers a wide variety to choose from. With the Camon 17 Pro ranking as a top tier release in the series, it ships a dual of colours, Malibu Blue, and California Dream silver with 8GB RAM + 256GB of Internal memory as its key differentiators from the lower variants.

At the moment, the Tecno Camon 17 has been marked available in Uganda and you can buy the smartphone at any authorised Tecno mobile outlet in Uganda. But due to the COVID19 pandemic, travelling from Zone A to Zone B may not be your best choice, and Tecno Mobile decided to trim the distance by making the device available for purchase on Jumia which ranks as the top online shopping website with deliveries to anywhere in Uganda.

Comparatively, we expect the TECNO Camon 17 to come in different models as its predecessor. In 2020, the Camon 16 launched with Camon 16 Premier, Camon 16 Pro, and Camon 16s variants. Likely, the Camon 15 as well came in 3 models, the base Camon 15, Camon 15 Air, and the Camon 15 Premier with a pop-up selfie camera as its key feature.

However, as per leaked information about the Camon 17, the device is expected to be the lowest on specs as compared to its 2020 predecessors. This means, the smartphone may ship upgrades in the Operating system, Chipset, Storage, and other internal features, but may lie behind the Camon 16 Premier which currently rocks as the best performance variant in the series.

Well, leaked specifications point to a punch-hole display with an HD 720 * 1600 pixels resolution, a fingerprint sensor, 3.5mm headphone jack, and a 5000mAh inbuilt battery as features to watch out on the inaugural 2021 Camon series release.

Camon 17 Specs we expect once launched

• The Camon 17 will equip a MediaTek Helio G70 Processor
• 6GB RAM is expected to boost the device with great performance
• A Punch hole display notch will be guided by a 6Inch 720*1600pixels screen
• The Camon 17 will run Android 11 straight out of the box and the first TECNO release to run the operating system
• The device will have a rear-end fingerprint sensor with face unlock support to the front
• An Inbuilt 5000mAh battery will be supported with an 18W fast charging port
• A 3.5mm headphone jack is expected to be present

At the moment, the first Camon 17 renders have not been uploaded, but in comparison with its predecessor – the Camon 16, we don’t expect significant changes in the design since both devices sport the same display and battery capacity.

But with Android 11, the smartphone will be the first TECNO Mobile release to ship the latest version of Android which makes it one to consider adding on a midrange shopping budget. More so, with 6GB RAM, the device could troll new performance levels as revealed through an FCC document and Google Play Console. For now, we expect the Camon17 to launch in April 2021.
