Lyca Mobile is a UK based telecommunications company that is best known as a mobile virtual network provider (MVNO). A MVNO relies on other network’s coverage to virtually offer services to its customers.

Well, Lyca mobile launched in Uganda earlier this year in January as a full telecom company to disrupt the local telecommunications sector with voice and data offers for its customers.

Apparently, Lyca mobile which has not fully flagged off its operations in Uganda promises the cheapest data bundles in Uganda after a list of its projected data bundles has surfaced online.

The telco which so far has a coming soon landing page on its website promises 20GB for as low as UGX 10,000/= as its entry-level monthly mobile bundle.

On a high 100GB costs UGX 50,000/= which is 10 times cheaper than what the current telcos in Uganda with an average of 15GB at 50,000/= offered by most mobile providers like Africell, Smile, MTN, and Airtel.

Data Bundle

Price

100

10,000/=

50

25,000/=

20

50,000/=

The telco aims at dominating Uganda with a coverage map routing across the Karamoja region, Kigali region, central, East and Western regions of Uganda. At the moment, rumor has it that Lyca is still in its final license completion phase with UCC to fully bring its services online.

How to buy a LycaMobile SIMCard at the Moment

Though Lycamobile is still in its preparation stages, buying a SIMCard may require you to visit the telco’s headquarters on Yusuf Lule Road in Kampala where you can as well top up your account from.

Accordingly, the telco acquired Tangerine in 2019, meaning Tangerine Simcard holders could be able to sniff the network and enjoy its early rollout offers.

For now, Lycamobile promises the cheapest data bundles in Uganda. But we hope it doesn’t follow a path adjacent to that Smart Telecom adopted when it acquired Sure Telecom and availed the cheapest data bundles where 1GB was priced at UGX 1,000, and overnight true unlimited at 2,000/=

Amidst Stiff competition from MTN that recently unveiled work from home bundles, Airtel with its Freaky Friday offer and Africell with Don’t be cheated. Lyca Mobile’s offer will disrupt the industry, and may spike changes on the mobile Internet offers landscape, but will it survive?

Jaguza is a renowned ICT applications firm that has taken the application of revamped technology in Africa to new heights. Ronald Katamba is the company CEO and the Jaguza app is one of those unique innovations that have attracted Investors to brace the company CEO for a showcase at the World Agri-Tech Innovation Summit in San Fransisco USA this month.

Jaguza is a subset of Afro Soft technologies Ltd, a company co-founded by Ronald Katamba and a crew bringing creative innovations to life. As a matter of fact, the Jaguza app is one mantel solution that is a problem solver to all livestock-related cases through the usage of AI-powered drones and chips.

Jaguza’s Ronald Katamba checks on an AI Powered drone at one of the experimental farms PHOTO: Jaguza tech

The Jaguza app packs a direct link to all configured drones that are shipped in by Farmers to monitor animal movements plus health meters away from the signal source. By the same fashion, the AI-powered drones simplify the work of a farmer by executing the hard task of tracking and monitoring animals on a farm.

So, the World Agri-tech Innovation Summit will be braced by one of Uganda’s Innovative founders with AI-powered drones taking over the thinking cap in agriculture. Furthermore, Ronald will be in Sanfransico to not only exhibit how Jaguza AI-powered drones spike the agricultural standards but also ship in new chips to improve the AI drone bots.

Henceforth, as Ronald Katamba braces the 19th-20th slated World Agri Tech summit, we shall be on the watch of all innovative solutions bred from the 2 day shakedown.

Nokia 9 PureView has over 5 cameras to its back and this is not surprising in a competitive race where Huawei has a foldable Mate X and Samsung boasts with a Galaxy fold. The smartphone is exhibited at the Mobile World Congress and with a closer look at its inbuilt features, its more like a revamp of the Nokia 8.1 and 7.1 with a forest of back cameras.

What the 5 Nokia 9 PureView cameras do

In 2018, the smartphones trend was surrounded by dual and trio camera smartphones. Well, its 2019 and Nokia has changed the trend to 5 cameras at a time when the Galaxy fold holds 6 cameras as the Mate X poses with 4 on 1 single device. Well, all 5 Nokia cameras have different features/capabilities and these are some of them.

First of all, the 5 cameras are Zeis camera lenses and they appear like a ring of 7. Three of these are 12 MP monochrome cameras and the two are 12MP RGB cameras. Interestingly all 5 cameras have an f1.8 aperture and 28mm focal diameter as the rest 2 camera like pots feature a spot flash and a time of flight sensor.

A Forest of 5 Cameras accompanied by the rear flash and sensor to the back for the Nokia 9 PureView PHOTO BY: CNET

Basically, the Nokia camera is not fully designed for zoom but are meant to capture full detail for HDR and depth of field for maximum bokeh in captured photos. If you’re to clearly focus on the photos taken by the phone cameras, you may closely compare them to those of a fantastic $1000 DSLR.

Even more features for the Nokia 9

Nokia 9 Pureview is a smartphone by HMD Global__A company that acquired Nokia a few years back. The Smartphone ships in Android One version 8.1 making it one of the great releases you can look out for with a slightly bigger budget.

The phone has a 20MP front-facing camera aside from the 5 rear cameras. A 5.9 Inch display powered by a 2K OLED screen makes it a detail-rich device alongside one feature that amazed us __ the onscreen fingerprint sensor. It’s an Android one smartphone and is further equipped with wireless charging and IP67 water resistance making it a leader in its own caliber for this quarter.

The Nokia 9 Pure View has an onscreen finger print sensor different from the back versions we’ve seen before

According to HMD which unveiled all its phones for 2019 at MWC, the company will try to release a phone per month and the Nokia 9 is one of those we should expect to be released in March. However, the Nokia 9 is a limited edition and it will go for $699 once it’s released to the hungry market. Nevertheless, these are the specifications bundled to the Nokia 9

Nokia 9 PureView quick specs

A new Nokia 9 will cost $699 and shares the price as Apple’s cheapest iPhone launched last year in the XR suit. Furthermore, the phones will be available from March as per the HMD plan. However, you can also consider looking into the next 4 releases made at the 2019 MWC.

Huawei mobile is the first manufacturer to unveil a foldable smartphone at the MWC event in Barcelona, Spain. The new Mate X is an exceptionally believable competitor of the Galaxy fold. We guess Huawei was closely peeping in ventilators to see what Samsung’s foldable smartphone would look like before unveiling theirs.

Huawei previously inked plans of joining the foldable smartphones race and yes, the foldable release is finally here. The last Mate series smartphone we got to know of was the mate 20 which was released with 3 rear cameras. Well, the Mate X has 4 rear cameras to its metallic body.

As if that’s not enough, selfie lovers won’t need to tweak alot in captured photos since the smartphone ships in 4 Leica powered cameras to the front/back left panel. So, the Mate X is simply a revolutionary device with the best exceptional features we’ve seen so far.

The Huawei Mate X ships in an elegant design with 3 foldable screens

Huawei’s Triple threat and 5G Connectivity

Samsung unveiled the Galaxy fold as that killer smartphone to beat the competition and see the Korean brand back to the topmost position. Huawei’s call is simply a bigger triple threat with 3 screens on the mate X and of course 4 cameras to revolutionalize your rear captured pictures. Only that, makes the Huawei Mate X the best foldable smartphone so far even when it’s the most expensive this far.

5G has been a big point for Huawei as it has focused on bringing the connection standards to life as it stretched out during the MTN expo in Uganda last year. The Mate X is the company’s first 5G powered smartphone that has already outpaced the Galaxy fold in both connectivity bands and the battery underneath.

Taking the Selfie game beyond vision, the mate x ships in 3 front selfie cameras

The Mate X ships in a 4,500 mAh battery as the Galaxy fold poses with a 4,380 mAh battery meaning Huawei’s release is a major take over even when a brand new Mate X costs $2,600 __a full $620 price difference with the Galaxy Fold. Nonetheless, here are the quick specifications of Huawei’s foldable Mate X smartphone.

For more detailed specifications of Huawei’s Mate X smartphone, consider following our African Gadgets partner (Gadgets Flix Africa). So, as the MWC event continues to unfold, Huawei’s release is simply the best Mate we’ve ever seen and now that its a 5G beast with a triple threat approach to the Galaxy fold.

Price & Availability

The Huawei Mate X is the most expensive foldable smartphone ever released priced at $2,500 as the Galaxy Fold is priced at $1,980. So, if you thought buying an iPhone X required you to sell one of your kidneys, then the foldable Mate X may live you with none.

The Mate X unfolds to a 7.3 inch tablet with all 3 screens out. However, it features no front camera when unfolded to this angle and the rear cameras take control from here!

The Mate X pronounced as ex and not 10 will be available mid-2019 as soon production of the smartphone is finalized. However, this means the device may start shipping in Africa in July or August this year. Nevertheless, Huawei is the first foldable company to break its silence at MWC and we shall hit you up with more updates from the Congress.

Its about that time of the year when the Ugandan entertainment scene denotes maximum markups. However, with the 2018 MTN Expo, technology and entertainment shall cross lines as MTN celebrates its 20th birthday in Uganda. Having battled with UCC earlier this year for a license renewal, MTN’s 20 year Expo has checked in at the right time of the year clocking in on 19th October 2018.

Among the key activities that will draw more light to MTN’s future in Uganda, the telecom prepared a hefty pack of futuristic innovations we’ve never seen come true in Uganda. While a driverless 5G enabled car will take lead in portraying the power of the internet. Smartphone discounts and connected homes will have a special slot to showcase in the innovation corner as we learned of the series of activities that will take place during the 3day Expo.

Activities in check for the MTN 20 year Expo

The expo will celebrate bits of history including a museum to show the journey of where the MTN brand (in Uganda) has come from

There will be a live display of a 5G powered driverless car

A special “connected or smart home” – visitors can come and see what homes will look like in the future

Massive smartphone discounts including a special FERO phone

A special connected, smart cow will have multiple functionalities of how a great cattle herd can be managed

Engagements with Robots at the Expo

Entertainment ranging from Led displays, performances and fun-filled circus shows

Although the MTN Bosco Ad has always been a virtual play all over the internet and local Tv stations. During the Expo, MTN’s Momo pay ambassador will have a front seat ushering in the betterness in the cashless payments method from Uganda’s Everywhere you go team. Therefore, as we are excited about the upcoming smartphone discounts, tickets are sold at only 5,000/= making it an affordable double for everyone.

On Wednesday google clebrated its 19th year birthday since its launch and as the internet’s top most reliable search engine they naturally used their logo to honor the great milestone.Along with a fun logo featuring a birthday cake with “19” on top and balloons and presents, the doodle features a wheel users spin for 19 surprises highlighting key features they have introduced since launching in 1998.

The spinner includes fun stuff like playing tic-tac-toe or a Pony Express mini-game where you try to grab as many letters as possible.Co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin met a year earlier on the campus of Stanford University. Their plan was to create a service organizing the world’s information.Google takes its name from the number googol, which is a 1 followed by one hundred zeroes. More than 4.5 billion users hop on Google for their search needs.

In fact, Google is so commonplace it’s become a verb (ever ask someone to go Google something?).Of course, Google has moved well beyond its humble beginnings in Internet search. They’ve since introduced their own email service, productivity software like Google Docs, and its own mobile operating system, Android. These and alot more are great milestones for the world’s most popular search engine since with android in the play Google is definately the world’s second biggest software company after microsoft which dominated with its desktop operating system that is widely used and funny enough the most suitable platform to develop android apps, previously the microsoft founder Bill Gates as well announced that he uses android instead of windows for his smartphone though he didn’t mention which brand in particular Read more here.

Google furthermore has proved to be the world’s top driver to modern innovations with its latest being
