Tecno Spark 7p has been launched in Kenya as a much awaited successor to the Tecno Spark 6 and Spark 5 market glory. Over the years, the Tecno Spark series have ruled the market as budget-friendly smartphones any customer can look out for, and this legacy recently gave Tecno Mobile a steel hand to beat Samsung as the leading Smartphone brand in Africa.

Now, the Tecno Spark 7p launches as another midrange smartphone pimped with an attractive specifications sheet to out rule other budget-focused brands like realme, Infinix, iTel, Samsung, and Oppo. As per the company’s brief, the Spark 7p ships a bigger screen and big battery capacity to deliver the best gaming experience for users.

Even though the Spark series is focused on affordability, the trend with screen refresh rates has forced most manufacturers to up their game. To follow the standard, the Spark 7p sports a 6.8 inch screen with a 90Hz refresh rate which puts it on the list of smartphones with great display refresh rates.

Under its fashioned waterdrop notch display design, the device equips a MediaTek Helio G70 Chipset, 4GB RAM, and either 64GB or 128GB of internal storage. With a G70 gaming processor, Android 11 as the Spark7p’s base operating system with HiOS 7.5, its means most app functions are executed with a good performance grade.

More so, the Tecno Spark 7p’s 5000mAh battery can deliver up to 14days of uptime if well utilized with the built-in optimisation tools. To the camera grade, a triple 16MP rear camera setup ships with features like video bokeh, beautify, time-lapse, night mode, and smile snapshot making selfies aboard an 8MP front camera detailed with less image noise as listed on the device specs sheet.

TECNO Spark 7p Specifications

Display

Type

Waterdrop

Size

6.8-inch HD+ with 90Hz refresh rate

Resolution

720 x 1640

Platform

Operating System

Android 11, HiOS 7.5

Chipset

Mediatek Helio G70

Memory

RAM

4GB

Internal

64GB or 128GB

External

expandable upto 256GB via SD Card

Network

Technology

2G, 3G, 4G and VoLTE

SIM

Dual SIM GSM

Camera

Main

16 MP Triple camera with features like Smile Snapshot, Super Night Mode, Night Portrait, slow motion(240fps), and Video Bokeh

Front

8 MP w/ LED dual flash lights

Battery

Size

5000mAh

Type

Li-Ion

TECNO Spark 7p Specs

TECNO Spark 7p Price in Kenya

Currently, the Tecno Spark 7p is available in Kenya at KES 15,000 in official Tecno Mobile stores and online on websites like Jumia, Kilimall, Price in Kenya, among others. But based on the current Spark 5, and Spark 6 pricing, the Spark 7p price in Kenya may drop to give customers a window to upgrade to a 2021 version of the Tecno Spark.

At the moment, it’s only in Kenya where Tecno Mobile has launched the Spark 7p. But depending on the current COVID-19 pandemic trend in Africa, we expect to see the smartphone launch in Uganda, Nigeria, Tanzania, and other active markets by the end of May 2021.

Budget-friendly smartphones often ride in the low range scape and with a few crossing to the mid-range tier that is usually dominated by impressive releases. Well, it seems the norm has changed in 2019 with AI-powered smartphones taking the lead for a low cost of making the digital age an affordable evolution for everyone. This is a testimonial notch from the TECNO Mobile latest release riding on Android 9 and dubbed as the TECNO Spark 3.

We received a dark blue gradient TECNO Spark 3 for review a few weeks ago and this is one of the best review kits that have never disappointed s per their default taglines. The Spark 3 comes with a “Light Up the best in You” tagline and for the time we’ve held this elegant release for proves it to be one the best affordable mid-range releases of all time when its price scale is balanced up with its launch quarter.

On unboxing the device, the device components didn’t raise our eyebrows higher, but the new TECNO Mobile headsets proved a bit of the company’s plans to peel off headphone jacks on future releases as Apple ignited the trend. So, for the entire 2 weeks, we’ve held this device for, a scent of advantages of owning one is much evident as its low lights cant raise a beep from the ground. Nonetheless, here is how the TECNO Spark 3 performed on our review desk, but first here is a recap of its sweet specifications to expect.

Announced: May 2019
Available: From May 2019
Model: TECNO Spark 3 (KB7)
Colors: Bordeaux Red, Charcoal Black
SIM: Dual Micro-SIM
OS: Android 9 Pie
Network: GSM, WCDMA, LTE
Display: 6.2-inch HD+ Super FULLVIEW, 1500 x 720px
CPU: Qualcomm SD430 Octa-core Up To 1.4GHz
Storage: 16GB ROM expandable up to 128 GB (Memory Card support)
RAM: 2GB RAM,
Rear Camera: 13MP + 2MP dual rear cameras with quad-flash
Front Camera: 8MP front Camera with soft LED flash
Sensors: Accelerometer, Ambient Light, Proximity, Fingerprint
Battery: Non -Removable Li-Ion 3500 mAh

The Spark 3 Design, Build and Display

The TECNO Spark 3 is designed with ease or usage and beauty in design as compared to its predecessors, the Smartphone ships a new navigations button layout riding on a revamped shiny backplate with a solid gradient feel similar to what the Camon 11 brought to life.

Besides the lovely shiny gradient back plate of the TECNO Spark 3, a top-notch display welcomes you to the front as a 6.0 close to bezzeless screen size guarantees a perfect viewing experience on a 720*1500 pixels resolution. As a fact, the Spark 3 is the 2nd TECNO Mobile release to carry a top-notch display and the customizable notch makes it a beautiful device by sight.

A TECNO Spark 3 Straight out of the Box, A charming Android 9 release riding on full throttle performance modes

On the other hand, the Spark 3 charging port sits independently on the bottom plate only sharing sides with the device infrared sensor. As an improvement from the Spark 2, the Spark 3 packs its headphone jack to the top completing the physical access ports with the in-screen navigation buttons coming to life again.

The Spark 3 rear end has a well rounded close to 2px deep fingerprint sensor to its centerpiece as the top left corner houses its dual rear cameras and a quad flash finishing the device rear top. To the bottom, its where the Spark 3 external speakers swip in action as the vertical TECNO logo as well finishes the dotted gradient back cover.

Camera Perfomance

“Light Up the best in You” That’s what the TECNO Spark 3 craved to the market during its launch earlier this month, luckily the Smartphone cameras produce excellent pictures better than what we expected. On utilizing the camera’s 16+2MP zoomable lenses, the quality was still great to bring a perfect finish to the rear picture’s dialogue. As a test, here are some of the pictures taken during an evening Spark 3 testing spree.

The Spark 3 front camera also produces the full quality selfies in a one-shot by utilizing the device’s AI capabilities and modes including a bokeh/portrait mode that allows you to take professional grade pictures by simply utilizing the Spark 3 excellent capturing texture. On a low light test of the front camera which is powered by a soft duo LED flash, the quality still remains constant proving the device’s featured tagline a notch higher than how it actually sounds.

A Tale of the Spark 3 Perfomance levels

With Android 9 pre-installed to the TECNO Spark 3 and a provision to test the tales of Android Q, the Spark 3 performs better than any of its predecessors__thanks to the 2GB RAM and lightweight operating system. As an increment, 16GB is not enough for such an elegant release, but the Spark 3 performs, fortunately, continues its lighting fast spree even with the internal storage in the red zones.

The Back View of the TECNO Spark 3 Smartphone with a 3500mAh inbuilt battery, dual Sim slots, and a TF card slot

Network-wise, the TECNO Spark 3 loads online content faster even on a 3G connection and only it’s pro version supporting 4G, this makes it a compatible with sleek weight browsers like Chrome and Over the TOP (OTT) taxed Smartphone apps for a prolonged uninterrupted experience.

However, on running heavy 3D arcade games, the Phone posed slight sluggish movements meaning a 3GB Pro version would pull off the gaming duty much faster than the regular version. On the contrary, Android 9 pie runs with a smooth structure to its formation on the Spark 3 and we didn’t have any low flares on running compatible normal resource apps. So, you don’t need to hide your joy in Lite apps like Uber Lite or even Facebook Lite, but instead, enjoy the full versions as the developers crafted them for usage.

Software and Security

From Facial Recognition to an effective 5 feature fingerprint sensor, the security layers of the Spark 3 are on the perfect heights with no chances of bypasses as we tried to full the face recognition feature with a photo but instead failed on our first attempt. So, its a thumbs up to the effective fingerprint sensor and Full AI recognition face recognition algorithms shipped to the TECNO Spark 3.

The Spark 3 brings to life dual cameras, a fingerprint sensor and a quad flash to its rear end

Software-wise, the TECNO SPark 3 is gifted with HiOS 5__TECNO Mobile’s custom firmware and Android 9 Pie operating as the top phone system. Both these developer pieces are the latest advancements from the respective corners as Android 9 has come to play before Android Q. So, the Spark 3 ships the latest mobile operating system riding on a low budget unlike any other smartphones coping with the same advancements on the market.

Our Verdict

We’ve had a couple of smartphones lying on our review desk, from the Camon 11 to budget-friendly podium finishers like the Itel S13 and P33, but the TECNO Spark 3 is the best release we have so far glittered within 2019. On the low lights, we only don’t appreciate the dedicated 16GB which is not really enough for such a latest release coupled with Android 9 to its MediaTek Chip.

TECNO Spark 3 is a smartphone that will succeed the Spark 2 and Tecno Spark in the mid-range scope. The smartphone already crossed the launch lanes in early bid countries like Kenya and Nigeria as Uganda will be the latest country to join the list. As the Spark 2 continues to dominate as one of the budget-friendly companions, the Spark 3 is here to break records with more sounding features than its duo predecessors with the same code drive.

Similar to all smartphone releases, the Tecno Spark 3 is rumored to ship AI features to its ladder as the Itel P33 crossed the line with AI battery capabilities. For the Spark 3, it is rumored to pack AI to its front camera the same way the Camon 11 perfected its selfie lane with the same industry standard capability. As a matter of fact, our expectations are raised up high of what the Tecno Spark 3 will turn out to be in a leap year proclaimed with top tier foldable releases.

What we expect of the Tecno Spark 3

First of all, we expect the Tecno spark 3 to feature not less than 2 rear cameras to its build as its rumor images are circulating a well furnished close to bezzeless design. Second, we can’t hope, but a fingerprint sensor is another spicer we shall not miss to see in this next Spark series episode. More so, we expect the Spark 3 to borrow the charmy Camon tweaks dressed in an S-class attire, as a fact, our Camon like speculation is not just a rumor, but instead a mind blowing spoiler of the upcoming smartphone.

Since top tier manufacturers like Samsung and Huawei are competing up for major slots on the who has a better foldable smartphone board. We expect to see a shot of Tecno Mobile’s reply to this league through the Spark 3 before we even see flares of a foldable boom X , or even another folding series lane. So, expect the Tecno Spark 3 to have awesome camera standards riding on a big screen of atleast 6.0 inches to closely match the current phablet trend list.

All in all, we expect the Tecno Spark 3 to additionally cruise with a full view display notion as a top-notch will be a mind blower shipped to a budget-friendly league. Amazingly, we don’t expect the Tecno Spark 3 price tag to fly above $100 (UGX 370,000-390,000), if it goes beyond this, we think the price will meet resistance at UGX 450,000 depending on the Spark K7 and K9 retail prices. So, as we hope to see another Spark series entrant on the Ugandan market, it might be another extra spiced budget-friendly release of the season.

Smartphone prices have continued to find support beyond $200 (Approx 800,000/=) with resistance below $100 (Approx 370,000/=). Manufacturers like Tecno, Fero, and Itel have continued to register more sales on the latter range. However, finding that great smartphone may require you to step up and know many models to choose from! but worry not we have progressively listed some of the top 5 budget-friendly smartphones you can look out for anywhere around East Africa

Given the fact that we’ve had a couple of devices for review this year, including a mighty 13MP selfie camera device. Our compiled list features smartphones that are indeed worth to buy with the best capabilities as a $1000 iPhone. Well, 2019 will have more phones to come, but first here are the exciting devices that toppled up 2018 with a budget-friendly tag

Fero A4001 Plus

In Uganda, MTN has promoted this smartphone more than its very own KaFit smartphone. Well, the coolest thing with this phone is that it’s the cheapest you can ever get at only UGX 99,000 approximately $26 as the mix and mingle was evident during the 2018 MTN Expo. Though we are not sure of the price of this smartphone in Kenya and Tanzania, You can get it in several telecom shops across the region

Itel S13

Gifted with a 13MP selfie camera and a long-lasting battery, the S13 is one of those great smartphones for the low spenders who wish to get a fingerprint sensor mixed up with some great picture quality. At only, UGX 290,000 ( Kshs 7,900 | Tshs 179,000 | $78) you can get yourself a brand new Itel S13 with its specification listed here. But if you are not a great Itel fan, Huawei is one of those brands that give Samsung some headache on a global showdown

Huawei Y5 lite

The Huawei Y5 lite was introduced in Kenya a few weeks back as a cheap version of the Y5 prime. Retailing at $97 across Huawei dealer shops and telcos in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, we believe the Y5 is not one of the smartphones that can’t disappoint for a super showdown since it’s great specifications speak louder than its sole shiny design.

Tecno Spark

By now, every user who opts to buy a TECNO smartphone would mention the model Spark. The TECNO Spark smartphone is a predecessor of the Spark 2 which is priced above $100 and that’s why it’s not listed here.

If you are looking for that great big screen smartphone with bulk features to poise around with? then considering the Spark wouldn’t be a bad choice depending on your budget since it’s priced at exactly $100 across the region. Or else, Itel mobile still has some budget-friendly bulls with fantastic features you can opt to own for less

Itel P32

Itel’s P series are best known for their big batteries that can take you for more than 3 days with only 1 charge. In 2018, Itel decided to unveil the P32 which has two duo light covers that can make one wonder the type of smartphone you own.

At only UGX 320,000 ($86 | Kshs 8,700 | Tshs 198,000) you can own yourself a brand new Itel P32 smartphone, Other than that, why not drop your favorite budget-friendly phone you’ve purchase below $100 below for inclusion in our comments section!
